27 Juli Iced water on a hot summer day
I'm gonna go and watch Tommy's performance on Feb.22 (Sun) evening in Richmond, VA. Anyone wanna go together? 可是,who cares? 我在想的,还有人们坐过山车时为什么会觉得“爽”?Gravity是统治我们的rule, but "the Joker has no rules". 14 Dezember Change BossI hereby announce that my collaboration with my current boss ends. Starting next semester I will work with Dr.Yu in CS department.
"Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness." 13 Dezember 05 November Witness General Election 08
11pm Eastern Time, Nov.4th - the time when several states on the west coast closes their poll, the media historically announced that Sen. Obama is projected to be the next president of United States of America. And he will be the first African American president. As I was watching live video on Internet, looking at the cheering crowd of more than 100,000 people in Grant Park (the headquarter of Obama campaign), listening to the words of ‘unbelievable’, historic’, extraordinary’, watching the images of people kneeling down and crying or just standing there with tears shed - I myself as a foreigner even feel moved and excited by this election and by this country. General election is the best patriotism education for a nation. Congressman John Lewis, who is a leader in the American Civil Rights Movement, said in an interview yesterday, that he has never imagined this profound moment that he lives to see a black man being elected the president of this country - a country in which even forty years ago a black man hailed a taxi but most likely was ignored by the driver, a country in which racism has been and still be the No.1 unstable factor of the society, and a country that black men being slaves two hundred years ago when she was founded. This moment has come much sooner than most of the Americans thought. And none of the countries in the western world can be as open and democratic as America. That’s the amazing part of this land. I've never been to Europe, but I've heard of from a senior consultant in UBS told me that the European countries are much more conservative than the US and that’s why he chooses to live here. I also hear from friends who have experienced the superiority of some European people. Being different from them, the unique America as an immigration country opens to provide jobs to the competent international students and welcomes them to stay. It is the immigrants, white or black, who built this country and keep her energetic and moving forward. That's the uniqueness of this country. I was moved by people's political enthusiasm in this season, by the image that an old woman staggered in the long long queue outside the polling station. I try to find the answer that why so many people choked up or even cried when a new president is elected, especially this time. Why are they so obsessed with voting? The tears must be different from the tears at the moment when mankind steps onto the moon, when a masterpiece of art makes one overwhelmed with emotion. The tears should be in common with the ones when a little girl singing <A Hymn to Our Motherland> in the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympics. It is the power of patriotism, the power of democracy, the power of politics. There's no doubt that we as Chinese people love our country and we are all patriotic – especially when we are abroad. However, most of us, in particular born in or after the 80s, have not experienced the power of politics which makes one moved and cry. Gone are the days when Chinese people were crazy about politics but lost ourselves, gone are the days that we unconditionally believed in the government. When all the chaos in the 60s, 70s and the end of 80s are faded away, left are the indifference of talking about politics among the youngsters, including me. We are still patriotic, yet our patriotism comes from our vast history and culture, comes from our pride as a people – not from democracy though. That's why I was moved by this election and that's why it keeps me meditating about it. It is true that some Americans choose not to vote because they think politicians are politicians. And politicians are controlled by their financial groups or companies behind them. So they simply don't care who will be the president. But most Americans believe as citizens voting will make them big and strong. Regardless of the necessary political background and what are really behind the candidates, they must go through certain stages which ensure the leader elected to be an excellent person. They must debate with each other in front of all the people in the nation. They must be challenged by a number of interviewers who have the toughest questions for them. They even go to comedy shows to show their sense of humor. Those are what the leaders in other countries in the world seldom experienced. If they happened to watch this election, they are sure to have something to think about. In a word, whether you like Barack Hussein Obama or not, he will be the next President of America. And whether you are for or against him, this is a victory for all Americans. Even though I can still largely feel the existence of racism, this is an extraordinary and steady step forward of Americans as a whole and has enormous implications on the children and children's children. In Obama's speech after he won the election, he mentioned a 106 year old woman in Atlanta who voted for him. “She was born just a generation past slavery; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky; when someone like her couldn't vote for two reasons -- because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin. ... At a time when women's voices were silenced and their hopes dismissed, she lived to see them stand up and speak out and reach for the ballot. ... And this year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen, and cast her vote, because after 106 years in America, through the best of times and the darkest of hours, she knows how America can change.” Yesterday the President of Kenya (肯尼亚) announced that Nov.5th is national holiday. Because a son whose father was from Kenya is elected the next President of United States of America.
